What is Toncoin (TON)?
Toncoin (TON) is an independent Layer 1 network developed in 2018 by the Telegram encrypted messaging platform. Then the project was abandoned, transferred to the TON Foundation and renamed from the Telegram Open Network to the Open Network.

Since 2020, the technology has been developing thanks to a non-profit group of supporters and an independent community of enthusiasts who called themselves the TON Foundation. Toncoin, formerly known as Gram, is the TON network's own coin.
