Unload / suspend / hibernate idle tabs to reduce memory and cpu usage.

Unload idle tabs to free your precious memory and cpu resources!

Tiny Suspender will automatically suspend/hibernate background tabs for you, greatly reducing overall system resource usage without you having to take any action. You can set how long to wait before suspending idle tabs and configure a whitelist to exclude certain pages from automatic suspension.

Features:

- Form Detection: Tiny Suspender will try to detect active forms to avoid automatically suspending page with unsubmitted data

- Audio Detection (optional): prevent autosuspending tabs that play music in the background.

- Snooze: Temporarily prevent autosuspension on a specific tab or domain

- Whitelist: Excludes specifics domains, pages, tabs or pinned tabs.

- Keyboard Shortcuts: Suspend tabs without moving your hand away from your keyboard.

- Optionally use Chrome's native tab discard feature to save even more resources when your background tabs get suspended.

- Allow opening links in a new suspended tab

- Dark Mode theme (optional)

Simply the best, most versatile suspender out there. I use it in native mode, together with the "sloth" extension and it's a great combination. (suggestion: include the "sloth" functionality directly in Tiny Suspender)

when I restart my browser, all the tab icons switched to a power off icon, so impossible to know which tab is which. This is why uninstalled.

Like many others I'd been looking for a replacement for the Great Suspender for some time. So far, Tiny Suspender does seem to be the best of a not particularly great bunch. Honestly, 80% Of the time I'd probably have given it a 4 or even 5 star rating and a much better review but there are two issues for me.

The first is that, every now and then for some seemingly random reason, it will suspend the tab I'm actually working on. This can be a major issue and has caused me to lose work on online forms and graphics packages as well as, for instance, suspending Facebook and when re-opened, I can't find the post I was commenting on. This random suspension is far and away the worst thing about Tiny Suspender.

The second issue is a recent one (And one I admit may not be the fault of the dev, but could be a Chrome update issue) but now, if I bring a suspended tab to the front, even if I have the option for automatically re-starting a suspended page checked, the suspended pages wont re-start without being clicked on first. This is admittedly a relatively minor irritation, but it is one that I find affects work flow adversely.

If both these issues were sorted, I would definitely upgrade this to a 5 start review meanwhile I'll carry on using Tint Suspender as, as I said previously, it does still seem to be the least worst option out there.

Edit - 08/01/22

Well, I'm afraid that I've had to drop my review to 1 star and I'm looking for a replacement as It's getting close to being unusable for me now. Neither of the two issues I commented on previously have been addressed. I can live with having to click on a tab to open it despite having the app set to open automatically, but the fault where it randomly suspends a tab that I'm working on has gotten worse with each update of Chrome. Frequently now I'll be typing into a form and the tab will suspend for no apparent reason, losing all of the work I've just done and it just can't carry on like that. I can't recommend this app to anyone until that fault is fixed and, as there have been no updates since 2017, it would appear that any work on and support for this app has been suspended
